| OCEANOGRAPHIC PLATFORMS |
|
The measuring stations on the sea or river basins are usually installed on floating platforms (buoys) which generally vary in size, shape and dimensions depending upon the operational requirements and the environmental conditions of the site in which they operate. A typical buoy is usually cylindrical in shape with a diameter that can range from 1 to many meters; they may be “tree buoys”, or very long (height); or “disc”, with a very large diameter with respect to its length (height). Each of the above mentioned types has its advantage and limitations with respect to others. By this it is meant that an ideal solution does not exist, only a reasonable compromise between: shape, dimensions, weight, reception, stability with regards to meteorological and marine conditions, cost, as well as other considerations. For its applications Ageotec prefers platform buoys, made for a specific purpose, and that are more stable, equipped with more useful space, lighter and less expensive. |
